Alaska isn’t known as “The Last Frontier” for nothing. This state is vast with its endless mountain ranges to miles and miles of coastline (all in one place!). No need to choose between the beach or the mountains anymore. With such a unique landscape boasting 16 national parks, you can elope and honeymoon all at once, and never tire of the epic views. As Alaska Elopement Photographers, we are stoked to share what we’ve learned.
Elope With Us in AK
This place becomes a winter wonderland during its longest season. At this time, you’ll see less sunlight, but you also might be lucky enough to experience the Northern Lights. Soft light, long "sunsets", and the short days are perfect for a Northern Lights elopement, like this one we photographed at Borealis Basecamp in Fairbanks! We’d recommend planning an Alaska elopement towards the end of the winter months, February and March, when the weather is less intense and we begin to see a bit more sun.
Alaska’s terrain is most accessible this time of year, showing off lush fields of wildflowers and plenty of wildlife roaming around. While it’s the busiest time of year, you can still skip the crowds if you come in May or September when tourist season isn’t at its peak. Summer is also witness to remarkably long days, with some regions, like Fairbanks, seeing a shining sun for a full 24 hours a day. And believe us, the midnight sun’s golden light is extraordinary.
This state is known for its intense, but incredible landscape that can vary greatly from place to place. So it’s important to research whichever region of Alaska you hope to visit before you do. We've decided to narrow things down a little bit and divide the year into to time periods: summer and winter.... or what we prefer to call it ... "Long Days and Short Days!"

Becky and Brian as they helped us feel confident in our decision and made the entire day fun and stress free. From assistance in planning, to an incredible ceremony, and phenomenal photos that we will cherish for the rest of our life we couldn't recommend this duo enough."

We have quickly fallen in love with several locations and are listing a few below -- but keep in mind, Alaska is HUGE and there is so much more to explore!
Situated on the Kenai Peninsula, this area full of beautiful islands and quaint seaside villages. We love Seward for its small-town feel, local breweries, and coffee shops, not to mention breathtaking views.
‣ Lots of scenic islands like Fox Island and Rugged Island
‣ Access point to Kenai Fjords National Park
‣ Lots of pebble beaches framed by mountainscapes
‣ Great marine life watching and kayaking
Hatcher Pass, nestled in the Talkeetna Mountains, offers breathtaking views of rugged peaks, alpine meadows, and winding trails. Its rich history as a gold mining area adds an extra layer of intrigue to its scenic beauty, making it a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking both adventure and history in the Last Frontier.
‣ Lots of hiking and mountain views
‣ Fully accessible from around July 1-September 15
‣ Winter mecca for activities like dog sledding and skiing
‣ Fall colors and blueberry picking galore

‣ After you have applied, email to Vital Records office, and they'll send your marriage license in the mail.
‣ The marriage license is valid for up to 90 days.
‣ There's a 3-day waiting period if you’re going in person to apply for it; getting it online if this is an issue!

Need some help on where to stay??
We got you on this. You can plan on staying in a luxurious cabin in the woods or on the edge of a mountain that hangs over the sea. Or maybe you'd rather rent a van and travel around Alaska for a bit to explore on your own (hint - This is the way!)? Let us know you're preference and stress no more.
Well...we wrote a blog about that! 😂. You can see one all about Elopement Dresses here, and another about Elopement outfits here.
Nonetheless, for an Alaska elopement, dressing in layers is key, no matter what time of year. Even in summer, temperatures can vary widely and weather can roll in at any notice. We always recommend bringing layers with you to have just in case. Here are some overall tips:
‣ Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, and we always bring a light puffy jacket too! They pack up small enough to bring everywhere!
‣ In winter temps, wear thermal leggings under your dress/pants
‣ Warm wool socks and waterproof boots are also key in the winter
‣ We always recommend bringing a waterproof and windproof outer layer no matter what time of year
‣ Comfortable footwear with good traction and support goes a long way
Make your base camp one of the breathtaking Airbnbs near Seward, where you’ll have your first look before a day full of adventuring in the Kenai Fjords Glacier National Park. There, we’ll kayak through the icebergs to pick an unforgettable place for your ceremony and vow exchange. You’ll finish off the day with your first dance as a couple in Seward, a champagne pop, and cake cutting on a private beach.
Stay at the Alaskan-chic Salted Roots cabins and enjoy the modern take on cabin lodging with your person. We’ll meet you there for a touching first-look moment before a water taxi sweeps us away to a private beach for your intimate ceremony. Then, we’ll add some adventure on a helicopter tour across several rad locations. The showstopper? Your first dance as a couple atop a bluff perched high above the ocean. See this Helicopter Elopement in full here in this blog post.
Stay at a cozy lodge in Hatcher Pass and we’ll hike up to capture your first look just outside of your cabin. Then, together we’ll capture your adventure along the ridge of the April Bowl, to reach sweeping views of the Chugach Mountains for your ceremony. After vows are exchanged and all the feels are felt, we’ll head back down the pass for a celebratory drink and cake cutting at the Matanuska Brewing Company.
Book a one-of-a-kind stay in Palmer, AK where we’ll meet up for getting ready photos and a first look if that’s your style. After the tears have flown and we’ve captured your excitement beside the banks of the Matanuska River, we’ll meet our helicopter pilot at the Alaska Lodge who will fly us to your ceremony spot overlooking ancient glaciers (like this!). Our next stop? An ice cave expedition followed by an epic dog sledding experience. After we’ve fallen in love with all of the sledding pups, it’s time to head back to the lodge for a champagne toast. Then, the two of you can enjoy a delicious meal alone at the Ravens Perch.
Hey, we're Becky and Brian (yup, B&B. Easy to remember!). We document epic elopements with a philosophy that the best adventures feel spontaneous and sensational when the details aren’t dismissed. We advise on the oh-so-impactful logistics, do all of the location scouting, and even lend our officiant skills (that’s Becky). So, no need to sweat the details.

Absolutely! Alaska is one of the best spots to spots to see the Northern Lights. It's such a magical sight, and such a great idea to have your elopement under the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis.
To elope in Denali National Park, you’ll need to apply for a special use permit. Permits applications can be found on the NPS website, found here, and filled out at a minimum of 10 days in advance (or as early as possible!). We can always help with current policy changes as well, and love to help with all the details that follow!
