Some places look incredible in photos but are a pain for an actual elopement. Others give you amazing scenery, privacy and plenty to do without making the day unnecessarily complicated.
We’ve narrowed it down to 36 of our favorite places to elope in the US, from Alaska glaciers and Montana mountains to California beaches and Utah deserts. We’ve organized them by scenery below, plus we’ll help you narrow down which locations make the most sense based on season, crowds, accessibility and the kind of experience you want.

How to Find the Best Elopement Locations

Scenery/Backdrop:
When you start talking about your elopement, it’s super important to take a second to pause and start dreaming. Close your eyes and picture where your elopement ceremony will take place. Are you standing next to a waterfall? Or on top of a sand dune? Maybe in a valley, with mountains surrounding you? Once you decide what type of landscape you’re most drawn to, everything else can start falling into place!
Time of Year & Weather
Now that you’ve decided on the type of landscape you are interested in, it’s time to start thinking about what the weather is like in that spot. Is it somewhere that gets really hot during certain months or maybe really cold? Are you ok if there is snow in your photos or would you rather fall foliage and colors? As you start narrowing down which temperatures and months you like best, you’ll be able to do some research to figure out when to visit the landscape you’re looking for.
Whether or not you’re inviting guests
This is a big one for some people! When you’re considering the best elopement location for you, it’s important to consider if you are inviting guests or not. Some locations are not able to accommodate larger groups of people and some national parks limit the group size. If you do want to invite guests, consider having an elopement ceremony with everyone and then adventuring off on your own to say your vows in private.
Accessibility & Privacy
Think about how much effort you want to put into reaching your ceremony location. Some of the most beautiful elopement spots are right off the road, while others require hiking, a boat ride, or even a helicopter. And just because a location is remote doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have it to yourselves. Popular overlooks and trailheads can get busy, especially during peak season. Tucked away in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, Stanley is a total hidden gem. We stumbled upon it one spring and now go back every year. Its landscape features crystal-clear rivers and rugged mountain views, creating a peaceful yet adventurous setting for your elopement. Grand Teton National Park is one of those places that blows our minds every time we go back. The peaks are so dramatic and can be seen for miles and miles. It’s definitely one of the best places to elope in the US.
The park has seen a spike in popularity for elopements over the years, so obtaining a wedding permit can be more difficult if you have a larger group. However, it’s definitely doable, especially if you have photographers who know the area and the timing that comes with the permit system.
